People believe in West Bengal and eastern India that by keeping fast and performing Puja rituals during auspicious Phalaharini Kalika Amavasya, Maa Kali will be pleased and give her blessings and fulfill their long-awaited desires.
Vat Savitri Vrat is observed in Jyeshta Maas, during Jyeshtha Amavasya in Purnimant Lunar calendar, mainly followed in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu, and Kashmir.
In the rest of the Indian states, people follow Amant calendar. In these regions, Vat Purnima Vrat is also known as Vat Savitri Vrat.
