People believe in West Bengal and eastern India that by keeping fast and performing Puja rituals during auspicious Phalaharini Kalika Amavasya, Maa Kali will be pleased and give her blessings and fulfill their long-awaited desires.
Vat Savitri Vrat is observed in Jyeshta Maas, during Jyeshtha Amavasya in the Purnimant Lunar calendar, mainly followed in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu, and Kashmir.
In the rest of the Indian states, people follow the Amant calendar. In these regions, Vat Purnima Vrat is also known as Vat Savitri Vrat.
It is observed during Jyeshtha Purnima(Jyeshtha Maas) in the Amant calendar according to the Indian calendar.
Phalaharni Jyeshtha Amavasya is also observed as Jyeshtha Shraddha Amavasya for getting rid of Pitra Dosha’s problems by performing Snan-dan, doing charity rituals, and helping needy persons.
Devotees worship Goddess Kali with great enthusiasm on Jyeshtha Amavasya according to the north Indian or Bengali Calendar. They offer a special puja (Shodashi) and special Bhoga or Mishti to please the Goddess Kali.
