Gulika Kaalam is believed to be the son of Lord Shani. It rises twice, the rising time of the day is considered inauspicious or Dosha Muhurat. Auspicious ceremonies like marriage or funerals are avoided during Gulika Kaalam.

The sign in which Gulika Kaal or Mandi rises is inauspicious for most of the important events.

Is Gulika Kaalam,Gulika Kaal/Mandi: An inauspicious/ Dosha Muhurat?

Gulika Kaal or Gulika Kaalam is an inauspicious period of Dosha Muhurat, very similar to Yamghantam Kaalam and Rahu Kaal.

Is the rising time period of inauspicious Gulika Kaal different for each day?

The rising time period or Muhurat of Gulika is different for each day, it is easily available in Gulika Kalam Chart.

It rises twice i.e. during the day as well as during the night, as it repeats, one should avoid performing any important event during this period, such as a funeral.

How to calculate Gulika or Mandi

Divide the duration of the day into 8 parts. The ruler or the Lords of the seven parts are according to the Lords of the days but remember there is no Lord of the eighth part. The first part always belongs to the Lord of the day.

This means the lord of the first part belongs to the day in question. And so the Lord of the first part keeps changing according to the day. In this case, the part which is ruled by Saturn is the lord of Gulika or Mandi, which keeps changing daily.

Examples of calculating Mandi or Gulika on Sunday and Monday

If you want to calculate Mandi on Sunday. Divide the day into eight parts. The first part belongs to Sun, 2nd to the Moon, 3rd to Mars, 4th to Mercury, 5th to Jupiter, 6th to Venus, and seventh to Saturn therefore 7th part is Gulika or Mandi. The 8th part has no Lord.

Similarly, if you want to calculate the Mandi on Monday, 1st part belongs to Moon, the lord of the day, 2nd to Mars, 3rd to Mercury, 4th to Jupiter, 5th to Venus, 6th to Saturn, and 7th to Sunday. The 6th part which belongs to Saturn is Mandi or Gulika.

You should follow the above sequence when you calculate during the daytime. Before doing this calculate the Ghatis of Dinman (duration of the day).

While calculating for the night, you have to take the Ghatis of Ratrimaan first and then divide and calculate Mandi.

Here, in Ratrimaan, calculate the 1st part of Ratrimaan from the 5th part.

Suppose if you calculate for Sunday and then divide the Ratrimaan in eight parts, and the Lord of the 1st part will be Jupiter (the 5th part), the 2nd part will be Venus and the 3rd part will be Saturn. This 3rd part is Mandi or Gulika

One should avoid all the auspicious events or activities during the inauspicious Gulika Kaal such as marriage, purchase of a house or new property, starting a new business, or new property for business.
