Certain auspicious Nakshatra, Tithi, day and time are considered shubh Muhurat for marriage. Only eleven Nakshatra among twenty eight Nakshatra are favorable. Akshaya Tritiya and Dev Uthani Ekadashi Tithis which come once in every year, are generally considered Shubh for deciding Shubh Muhurat for marriage.
However, there are some unfavorable Nakshatra,Tithi, period(time) during the combustion of Shukra or Jupiter in (Shukra Ast or Guru Asta) other Ashubh yoga periods,which are avoided for marriage in Vedic The study of the influence of celestial bodies on earth and humans.
First quarter (charana) of Magha and Moola and the last quarter of Revati are known as Ati Gand Mool Nakshatra, one should avoid this Nakshatra for the auspicious marriage Muhurat.
The presence of any one of all the three Uttara Nakshatra is an auspicious day for all the auspicious events. Some astrologers believe that Uttara Phalguni nakshatra should be avoided for marriage.
During auspicious Navaratri days, marriage can be performed, if necessary.
Pushya Nakshatra is inauspicious for marriage, though it is the most auspicious Nakshatra for all the events. This is an exception to the general rule.

Adhik Maas or Purushottam Maas is a very inauspicious period for marriage or engagement according to Vedic astrology. This year’s Jyestha Maas begins on 1st May, 2018(north), occurs as an Adhik Jyeshtha Maas, starts on May 16 and ends on June 13, 2018.

Dates for Shukra Tara Asta and Shukrodaya are as follows:
i) Venus will be in combustion (Shukra Tara Asta) till February 19, 2018(Monday) no marriage ceremony is recommended during Shukra Asta period before this date. Shukra Tara rises on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 05:59 pm.
ii) There will be no marriage ceremony dates from July 12, 2018 to November 19, 2018.
Shukra Tara Asta starts again on Wednesday,October 24, 2018 at 02:04 am, Venus (Shukra Tara) will rise on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 10:20 am. Total Shukra Asta will be only for 7 days.
iii) Auspicious dates or (Subh Muhurat for marriage will start again after Venus rises (Shukroday). Shubh Vivah Muhurat will begin again on 19 November, 2018.
iv) No marriage dates (Shubha Vivah Muhurat) are available after 10th December in 2018, due to Shukra Asta.

5. It is recommended that marriage ceremony should not be performed on birthdays, during the period of Venus or Jupiter’s combustion (Guru or Shukra Asta) Gulika or Rahukalam or Period of Rahu is different for each day and it should be avoided for any auspicious work or event.
6. Eight days’ period, in the month of Phalgun, which generally falls in the month of February or March just before Holi is known as Holashtak, it is also avoided for performing marriage in some parts of North India. Holashtak period will be from February 23, 2018 to March 1, 2018.

Abhijit Muhurta is an auspicious for performing marriages. The word Abhijit means victorious, Muhurta or Muhurtha means auspicious moment; anything done during this time ensures victory. Abhijit Muhurta, an important time is one of the simplest methods to select an auspicious time for performing any important event or ceremony, like engagement or marriage, without any calculation of Tithi or Nakshatra.
If Abhijit Muhurta falls on a Wednesday, performing of the auspicious events are avoided. Abhijit Muhurta of a particular place is calculated on the basis of L.M.T. of that place, begins 24 minutes before and 24 minutes after 12 noon, i.e. from 11:36 AM to 12:24 PM, total 48 minutes. Performing of most of the marriage ceremonies is preferred in Abhijit Muhurta in many parts of India.
Note: Traveling towards south direction should be avoided during Abhijit Muhurat.
