Certain auspicious Nakshatra, Tithi, day and time are considered auspicious shubh Muhurat for marriage in Vedic The study of the influence of celestial bodies on earth and humans. Only eleven Nakshatra among twenty eight Nakshatra, favorable Akshaya Tritiya Tithi and auspicious Dev Uthani Ekadashi Tithi which commences in October or November every year, are generally considered auspicious (shubh) for deciding Shubh Muhurat for marriage in Indian Vedic astrology. However, there are some unfavorable Nakshatra, Tithi, period during Shukra or Jupiter in combustion or other Ashubh yoga period,which should be avoided for marriage in Vedic astrology. First quarter (charana) of Magha and Moola and the last quarter of Revati are considered Ati Gand Mool nakshatra, should be avoided for the auspicious marriage Muhurata.
The presence of any one of all the three Uttara Nakshatras is considered auspicious day for all the auspicious events. Some astrologers believe that Uttara Phalguni nakshatra should be avoided.
If necessary, marriage can be performed during auspicious Navaratri days.
Pushya is inauspicious for marriage, though it is believed to be most auspicious Nakshatra for all events.
Abhijit nakshatra, a masculine but not a regular nakshatra, lies from 6.40’ to 10.53’.20 in Capricorn i.e. last quarter of Uttara Ashadha and first 1/15th part of Shravana, is also considered auspicious for marriage ceremony, but if falls on a Wednesday, should be avoided.
Auspicious Hindu wedding dates in 2017
Auspicious and avoidable inauspicious dates and Muhurat for Hindu marriage in 2017 are as follows:
i) Auspicious Hindu marriage dates (Shubh Muhurat, and Tithi) based on Indian Vedic astrology for year 2017 are starting from 15 January 2017( till 11 March, 2017). The auspicious wedding dates or Shubh Vivah Muhurat for performing marriage in 2017 will be only in these months: January, February, March, April, May, June, July and November.
ii) Venus will be in combustion (Shukra Tara Asta)from March 21, 2017 till March 26, 2017 and November 29, 2017(Wednesday) to February 19, 2018(Monday) no marriage ceremony is recommended during this period.
Guru Tara Asta which starts on October 12,2017 (Thursday night) and ends on November 9, 2017(Thursday night) is also believed to be inauspicious period for marriage.Hence there is no wedding date on Dev Uthani Ekadashi, this year.
iii) Akshaya Tritiya which falls on April 28, 2017 this year,is highly auspicious for marriage (Shubh Vivah Muhurat)
iv) Auspicious dates (Subh Muhurat) for marriage will start again after Shukrodaya.
v)There will be no marriage ceremony from July 03, 2017 to November 11, 2017.
vi) Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2017: Shubh Muhurat and Tithi for wedding will start again after Chaturmas in the month of November 2017.
No wedding date on Dev Utthani Ekadashi:
There is Guru Tara Asta on Prabodhini Ekadashi(Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2017) which falls on Tuesday, October 31, 2017,there is no wedding Muhurata.
Wedding dates will end on Thursday, November 23, 2017
There will be no marriage (Shubha Vivah Muhurat) in December due to Shukrast.

It is recommended that Marriage ceremony should not be performed on birthdays, during the period of Venus or Jupiter’s combustion (Guru or Shukra Asta) Gulika or Rahukala.
Eight days’ period, in the month of Phalguna, which generally falls in the month of February or March just before Holi is known as Holashtak, it is also avoided for performing marriage in some parts of North India.
Khar Maas, Adhik Maas and Shraddha Paksha (Mahalaya) are considered inauspicious, should be avoided.
The days after Makar Surya- Sankranti, which generally commences on January 14. Makar Sankranti falls on January 14, 2017 this year.

Abhijit muhurta, an important time is one of the simplest methods to select an auspicious time for performing any important event or ceremony, like engagement or marriage, without any calculation of Tithi or Nakshatra. If Abhijit Muhurta falls on a Wednesday, performing of the auspicious events should be avoided. Abhijit Muhurta of a particular place is calculated on the basis of L.M.T. of that place, begins 24 minutes before and 24 minutes after 12 noon, i.e. from 11:36 AM to 12:24 PM, total 48 minutes. Performing of most of the marriage ceremonies is preferred in Abhijit muhurta in many parts of India.
