Parivartana or Mutual exchange Yoga is one of the most powerful, influential, strong and special planetary combination in natal charts and it is very simple to understand. The results good or bad will be according to the position and strength of the houses, occupied by both the ruling planets involved, throughout life, especially in their periods and sub periods.
A Parivartan or Parivartana Yoga or mutual exchange Yoga in an individual’s astrological birth chart is a special planetary combination, formed due to mutual exchange of the houses by two sign lords (ruling planets) involved in it, and thus the power of these two occupied houses is increased. The results of most of Parivartana Yoga(combinations) are extremely good.
In other words, if two ruling planets or sign lords mutually exchange their positions and occupy each others house, Parivartana Yoga or Sthan Parivartana yoga is formed. In western astrology this position is called ‘in reception’.
If explained in more simple words, if planet A is in the sign of planet B and planet B is in the sign of planet A, Parivartana Yoga is formed.
A planet is considered powerful in its own sign (house), when it exchanges its position with the other planet both the planets get strength of each other. Energy moves from one house to other, gets enhanced thus makes both the houses stronger.
Example: Suppose the ascendant(Lagna)or 1st house is Sagittarius, Jupiter (Guru) is strong in its own sign Sagittarius (Dhanu) and Mercury is strong in Virgo (Kanya) due to its own sign, if Jupiter occupies Virgo (10th house) and Mercury occupies Sagittarius (1st house) their energies are mutually exchanged and the houses they occupy become more powerful.
Results of Parivartana yoga: There may be unexpected and sudden changes (events), may be extremely good or bad according to the strength of planets and houses they rule or occupy in astrological charts.

Kinds of Parivartana Yoga
Parivartana Yoga may be divided into three main kinds, based on houses involved in mutual exchange.

Maha Yoga or Maha Parivartana Raj Yoga:
Maha yoga is different from Mahabhagya Yoga. Maha Yoga is an auspicious Yoga and both the sign lords of auspicious houses are involved in this yoga.
Maha Yoga is created when both the interchanged sign lords(ruling planets) belong to only auspicious houses, i.e., mutual exchange is between any two sign lords of 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th 7th, 9th, 10th or 11th house from ascendant.
People born under Maha Parivartana Yoga are fortunate and achieve all that they like to acquire in their life. They get political power, prosperity, name, fame, status and authority. They are fortunate enough to enjoy big luxurious bungalows, luxury cars and many servants. Many prominent leaders including Presidents and Prime Ministers of many countries had this Yoga in their astrological birth charts. Former Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi had three Parivartan yoga in her birth chart. Pepsi Co chairman and CEO Indira Nooyi has also Parivartan Yoga in her astrological chart.
Explanation: To explain more clearly, when the auspicious houses, Kendra ( 1st,4th,7th 10th house), Trikona (1st,5th,9th house), Dhanashthana (2nd house) representing wealth or Labha sthana(11th house) representing income, mutually exchange their houses, Maha Yoga is formed. In Maha Yoga all the inauspicious houses (Dusthana) i.e., 3rd, 6th ,8th ,12th are excluded. There are twenty eight possible Maha Yoga.
